Universidad Diego Portales has invested in research as one of its core activities, becoming the university with the largest presence in disciplinary research within the private system.
UDP promotes the development of scientific research within its faculty, bringing guidance and support for submitting projects to the various sources of funding available, public and private.
At present, UDP is developing a large number of research activities with external -public and private- funding, such as the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development, the National Fund for the Development of Art and Culture, the Bicentennial Program of the National Council for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, and the European Commission.
Traditional research indicators (articles indexed in ISI journals, external funding awarded, etc.) place UDP among the most productive Chilean universities in research.
Universidad Diego Portales’ research centers, institutes, and nucleus aim to contribute to the debate, design, planning, and evaluation of public policies, with focus on issues of national concern.
CENTER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS
The Center for Human Rights promotes the study on human rights and has a clinic specialized in public interest litigation. Its research interests include civil, social and cultural rights, children’s rights, and prisons conditions, rights of people with disabilities, indigenous peoples, and migrants.
PUBLIC POLICY INSTITUTE
The Public Policy Institute of the Faculty of Economics and Business focuses on both research and teaching. Their purpose is to actively take part in policy negotiations and be an important actor in Chile’s public policy debates. They do so by generating public policy proposals aimed at tackling the most important policies the country faces today.
INSTITUTE OF HUMANITIES (IDH)
This Institute focuses on the study of philosophy and humanities from the perspective of contemporary political thinking.
CENTER FOR ARGUMENTATION AND REASONING STUDIES (CEAR)
Develops reflection based on the psychology of reasoning, the theory of argumentation and critical thinking. The Center aims to link this knowledge, in practice, with the methodology of debate, communication skills and the process of teaching and learning.
CENTER FOR COMPARATIVE POLICIES IN EDUCATION (CPCE)
This Center seeks to contribute to the design, implementation and evaluation of educational policies through the active work of specialized research centers in Chile and abroad.
INSTITUTE FOR RESEARCH IN SOCIAL SCIENCES (ICSO)
This is an interdisciplinary forum focusing on three main spheres of action: research, graduate teaching and outreach activities. Its mission is to promote academic exchange, linking the Faculty of Social Sciences and History, its researchers, academics and students with national and international counterparts.
CENTER FOR BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH (CIB)
Research is one of educational pillars of the Faculty of Medicine. It provides studies in fields such as biophysics and mathematical modeling, developmental neurobiology, microbiology, molecular genetics of new antimicrobial substances, as well as the genetic treatment of alcoholism, among other subjects.
CENTER FOR RESEARCH AND PUBLICATIONS (IPC)
Journalistic research is one of the areas of activity of this Center, with studies on various topical issues that have given rise to high-impact publications written by academics of the UDP School of Journalism.
CENTER FOR COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT
The mission of this Center is to promote the development of cognitive functions and affective motivational factors in order to enhance learning in humans, especially in the more vulnerable sectors.
COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCE LABORATORY
This Laboratory was established to develop multidisciplinary research focused on the area of electrophysiology, with strong emphasis on the study of phenomena that are relevant to psychological explanation.
PROGRAM IN ETHICS AND HUMAN REPRODUCTION PUBLIC POLICY
This program seeks to promote ethical and academic arguments to support the development of public policy related to issues of human reproduction that are appropriate for a pluralistic society.
PHENOMENOLOGY AND PSYCHIATRY STUDY CENTER
The Center aims to develop projects of excellence and international impact in the field of mental health, with particular relevance for clinical and psychotherapeutic practice.
CITY AND TERRITORY LABORATORY
City and Territory Laboratory is an academic center for design, research, and applied study of urban phenomena and territorial development.
The Astronomy Nucleus is part of the Faculty of Engineering and performs research in areas ranging from protoplanetary disks and extra solar planets to supernovae, AGN, and high red shift galaxies. The group has a strong focus on observational astronomy, performing observations at X-ray, optical, infrared, and radio wavelengths.
